Anxiety and panic attacks are a major part of who I am, or at least who I used to be in my early adult life. It has been nine months now since I last had an attack and I am thirty six years old.
For the most part the entire beginning of my adult life was lived around Anxiety and Panic attacks. From around the age of nineteen I suffered from severe attacks and was at first completely dumfounded as to what I thought I was initially going through. At first I thought I was going just plain crazy. Then, I soon found that the problem, although still in the realm of mental health was thankfully not in the psychosis department.
I also found out just how common this type of problem really is and where many people get the information and help that is necessary to find a solution outside of drugs and medication.
Anxiety and Panic attacks are something of an epidemic in these last years, or at least it seems that way to me. It can just seem that way because when someone identifies completely with an issue it suddenly becomes more noticeable. Like when you just go through a break up you only then notice how everyone in public shows their affection with each other. This and the addition of the internet, can more than likely be held responsible for my suddenly realizing all the exposure of these nervous disorders.
The internet can be an amazing resource for many people suffering from all kinds of different problems. But it can also be the breeding ground for others who try to take advantage of these people and the vulnerable nature of their problems. Exercising common sense was enough for me to steer clear of the latter group. That and Money back gaurantees from reputable programs. It was super easy to find support from other people suffering from similar difficulties. There are a very large amount of forums that are now available.
The less you know about anxiety and panic attacks the more overwhelming they can be. They can almost dictate your entire life and become more invasive and inconvenient the more you try to forget about them. This was a major part of the problem. I would have an attack when I would least expect it. The thing is you never expect these attacks and if you sit around and wait for them the will disappoint you. Once you feel comfortable that they are gone you start living your life again. Then of course something just happens I cannot really explain it. It is the strangest feeling of complete and total fear, extreme pressure and intense longing to suddenly withdraw from all people and any places other people might be.
Once you have an all out anxiety attack you know it. You will never quite see yourself the same way as you did once before. It is a constant concern of fear and anticipation that it could happen at any moment or at precisely the most inconvenient moment of all. When your surrounded by people in a public place with friends and family. This, is by the way, the times when it would mostly happen to me.
But like I said the less you know about these anxiety and panic attacks the more vulnerable you are to them. You then live at the mercy of them and suffer the most. The more you learn the better you are able to come to terms with and get some amount of control over them. Anxiety and panic attacks can be a truly debililtatiing disorder that is not something that you can easily discuss. At least not with just any body. It takes someone who truly understands these things or one who has some experience with them to really comprehend just how horrible they can seem.
Just like fear of the ghosts and goblins of your childhood the more light you shed on them the less power they have over you and your mental state of mind. Anxiety and panic attacks are not something you can easily control but with the right information and proper education there is hope. By hope I mean medication free becuase taking a pill to solve this problem only makes it go away for a little while. This only brings on other problems to add to the already powerful disorder.
