How to Cure Panic Attacks

There are many forms of panic attacks. Some only last a few moments, while others may last for days before they pass. Symptoms of panic attacks range from mild discomfort to almost unbearable anxiety. Other signs of panic attacks may include shortness of breath, dizziness, trembling, sweating and choking. These attacks may be caused by a phobia, or they may just happen without any apparent reason. For some panic attacks may be part of a larger anxiety problem. The good news for those who suffer from these attacks is that they can be successfully treated and even cured.

People who want to cure their panic attacks will first have to learn how to change by taking responsibility. The worst thing they can do is become dependent on medications, as this can lead to addiction. While things such as sleeping pills and other stress medication may help in the short term, they are not a long term cure. They usually suppress the attacks temporarily, but as soon as people stop taking them, the panic attacks come back.

One effective method to reduce or even cure panic attacks is cognitive behavioural therapy. With this type of therapy the patient learns to control his thoughts, replacing those leading to fear and panic with others. This approach does require regular visits to a therapist as well as some work by the patient.

Some natural methods that may help some people are aromatherapy or chamomile tea. Taking certain vitamins and minerals like vitamin B, magnesium and calcium may also help relax the nerves.

Remember though, before trying any of these methods, always see a doctor. In the end he will be able to help you choose an approach that will work for you.
